Search and replace inside CSV cells

Cleaning up exported data often means swapping one value for another across thousands of cells: fixing a misspelled category, changing a status label, normalizing country codes or blanking a placeholder. This CSV Find & Replace tool does exactly that in your browser. Paste CSV text or upload a file, type what to find and what to replace it with, and the page rewrites matching cells without sending the data to any server. That keeps customer lists, finance exports and internal records private while you edit them.

The parser correctly handles quoted fields, embedded commas and line breaks inside cells, so the structure of your file is preserved. By default the search runs across every cell, but you can target a single column once the file is loaded. Enable whole-cell match to replace only cells that equal the search text exactly, which is safer when a short value could appear inside longer ones. The result is re-serialized as valid CSV with proper quoting.

Plain text or regular expressions

For simple edits, leave regex off and the find text is matched literally everywhere it appears. For advanced patterns, enable regex to use JavaScript regular expression syntax, such as \d+ for digits or capture groups referenced as $1 in the replacement. The case-insensitive option adds the i flag so matching ignores letter case. Combining regex with a single-column scope lets you reshape one field, like trimming a prefix or reformatting identifiers, while leaving the rest of the row untouched.

Review the count before downloading

After running, the tool reports how many cells changed and shows a preview so you can confirm the edit did what you expected. If the count looks wrong, adjust the options, for example turn on whole-cell match to avoid partial hits, or pick a specific column to narrow the scope. When the result is correct, download the updated CSV as a local file. Because everything happens on your device, you can iterate quickly and safely, then import the cleaned file into a spreadsheet, database or reporting tool with confidence.

Frequently asked questions

Does find and replace happen on a server?
No. The CSV is parsed, searched and rewritten entirely in your browser. The data never leaves your device.
Can I use a regular expression?
Yes. Enable the regex option to use JavaScript regular expression syntax in the find field, with an optional case-insensitive flag.
Can I limit replacement to one column?
Yes. Pick a specific column after loading the CSV, or leave it on all columns to replace everywhere.
